Here are a few shots from my weekend in Amsterdam. While Anne-Laure attended a conference, I had fun strolling down the narrow streets and crossing the canals that the city is now for. The best part was biking around the Waterland plain located north of the town the day before the conferenced started. We covered at least 60 km (37.5 miles) pedaling through the small villages that are scattered around the area. The highlight was enjoying a cold beer by the harbor on Marken Island.
What do I miss most about Amsterdam? Is it the smells of the coffee shops? Is it the creepy statue found under a bridge in an overcrowded park? Is it the wooden shoes and windmills clichés that Holland is known for? Is it watching boats meandering down the Amstel? No, it’s the blueberry cheesecake ice cream found at the shop down the street from our hotel.
