>Playing for Change

>My aunt sent me this video and I thought I would pass it along. A simple message to make you smile.

And truly, all the world’s a stage…

>Is There a Doctor in the House?

November 30, 2008

>Anne-Laure had her dissertation defense on Friday. During the two-hour trial, she contended her reasoning for her research and didn’t let the jury lead her astray. After deliberating for almost an hour, the jury awarded her a Ph.D. in Management & Strategy with “mention très honorable avec félicitations du jury,” the highest possible honors one can earn!

Her parents and I were very proud and know she will have continued success as she develops more avenues for her research.

Keep up the good work, Babe!

>Ich Bin Berliner

November 9, 2008

>I was in Berlin at the beginning of this week for an ICEF conference. It went really well and I make a lot of contacts. The event is extremely tiring because you’re meeting with people nonstop from 8 am to 6 pm (not to mention the cocktails and dinners that follow).

I didn’t have much time to tour the city, but I was able to squeeze in a few hours Wednesday morning before my flight. Berlin is a nice city and the layout is more American than European (wide streets, spread out, etc.). I guess this is due to the reconstruction after WWII. The highlights of the stroll included the Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie. I hope to have more time to visit the next time around.

>Under the Big Top

November 2, 2008

>Anne-Laure and I took Theo to the Medrano Circus yesterday evening. Medrano is family-run circus that still holds its show under a classic Big Top (think Water for Elephants, if you’ve read that book). Our tickets, which were well worth the price for the awe-struck look on Theo’s face, were on the front row.

The show included lots of horses, elephants, tigers and (strangely enough) trained acrobatic cows. Outside of the animals, there were trapeze artists, magicians, stunt cycles in the ‘Ball of Death’ and clowns. The clowns, however, were not Theo’s favorite…at all (just like my friend Chris Tilghman).

Overall, the Little Guy had a wonderful (but exhausting) time.
