>Homecoming

Anne-Laure and Theo came home from the hospital yesterday evening. Knox (our dog) greeted the mom with a lick of delight and the baby with a sniff of curiosity. At first, Theo seemed to enjoy his new room, though throughout the night (approximately every three and half hours) he screamed that the bed was uncomfortable and the room service was awful. Knox then joined in and Anne-Laure and I were treated to a duet of discontent – Theo because he couldn’t turn the feeding machine on; Knox because he couldn’t cut the crying machine off.

Rumor has it they’re playing again tonight.

>Theo

I am proud to annouce that Theo Rémy Allen Duncan was born on August 18th at 11:21 pm local time. Weighing in at 7 lb 8 oz (3.57 kg) and measuring 19.3 inches (49 cm), Theo had to be removed by Cesarean section at the last minute due to constraints caused by Anne-Laure’s falling blood pressure, as well as other obstacles that plagued natural birth. As I departed the hospital, Anne-Laure and Theo were doing just fine, tired, but fine.

Though labor didn’t progress as expected and my participation in the event was less than desired, none of it mattered when I held Theo for the first time. There are few things in life that can, after endless preparation and practice, still leave one speechless and in awe. This has to be the top of the list.

>More Updates

August 7, 2005

>I’ve added some pictures of our trip to Scandinavia and Russia under the “Photos” section. More site links have been included in the Links page as well.

The databases are working though there is a glitch. It works perfectly on the testing server, but appears to encounter a problem when posted to Free’s server. I’ll see if I can figure it out.
